NewJeans’ Choreographers Accused ILLIT of Plagiarism, But Copied BLACKPINK’s Lisa?

Previously on May 13, NewJeans’ performance directors Kim Eunju and Black Q voiced their frustration, accusing ILLIT of plagiarizing a dance from one of NewJeans’ CFs, adding fuel to the fire of the ongoing ILLIT-NewJeans copying accusations.
Specifically, Kim Eunju wrote on Instagram, “What? Seriously? (copying) Even CF choreography? I’ve held back for a long time, but saying it’s just a coincidence is too much, right? Yes, there can be similarities! But usually, if you’re referencing, you should politely make some changes. This is outright copying.”
Meanwhile, Black Q also expressed frustration, saying, “No way! I’ve tried to swallow these thoughts for so long, but I can’t believe even a CF choreography isn’t spared. The process for someone’s hard work to appear before the public is not easy…”
These posts referred to the similarities between ILLIT’s “Lucky Girl Syndrome” dance and NewJeans’ choreography for a fast-food brand commercial.

After Kim Eunju and Black Q’s posts, related comparison videos quickly spread on social media. Most netizens agreed with the two well-known choreographers’ assessments, clearly seeing ILLIT’s reference to NewJeans’ previous dance. The formations and main chorus moves seemed to be copied exactly.
However, some netizens suggested that the choreographers of NewJeans themselves might be borrowing from another famous idol.

Particularly, the NewJeans’ hand movement in the CF is said to bear strong resemblances to a movement of BLACKPINK’s Lisa in her solo song, “Money”. Still, some believe that Lisa’s move in “Money” is only a little similar to NewJeans’, while ILLIT’s is a direct copy, making the situation different.
