On December 18, Hanni published a new video on NewJeans’ new Instagram account, revealing that she had written the song a few months ago and finally decided on a title.
According to the female idol, the song is “not perfect” and she still wants to change some of the lyrics, and her voice still falls flat on a few parts, so she was contemplating whether to post the video for a while.
“It’s not perfect to my standard”, the female idol explained, adding, “but singing to me isn’t meant to be perfect and I think I expressed a certain feeling in this clip that feels very raw and true to the feeling I felt while writing this song.”
Hanni also revealed the song’s title to be “weightless” and promised to reintroduce fans to “a little bit more ‘perfect’ version of it”.
Additionally, as shown in the video, “weightless” includes rather sad lyrics that captures a feeling of emptiness, such as, “Life just slips through my fingers just can’t figure out whatever this could be maybe I could linger here in your mind, Cold heart needs a rest burnt it out again banging on my chest hoping that your acknowledgement would make me feel better.”
As a result, fans were driven to tears and felt extremely emotional, complimenting not only the song’s melody and lyrics, but also Hanni’s soulful vocals.

Meanwhile, as if she can predict fans’ worries, Hanni reassured them by insisting that the song doesn’t reflect her current emotions.
“Also, don’t worry. I’m not sad right now. I’m very much happy and content!!!! Just… music you know”, the female idol said.
On the other hand, this is not the 1st self-written song revealed by Hanni, as she once drew sympathy with another song.
