NewJeans’ Parents Appoint Lawyer Specializing In Celebrities’ Exclusive Contract Disputes
According to insiders in the entertainment industry on May 19th, the parents of NewJeans members appointed lawyer Kang Jin-seok, who specializes in entertainment cases, on the 14th ahead of the interrogation for the provisional injunction filed by CEO Min Hee-jin to ban HYBE’s exercise of voting rights.
Lawyer Kang Jin-seok has reportedly dealt with numerous disputes over celebrities’ exclusive contracts.
On his blog, the lawyer introduced that he had reviewed numerous exclusive contracts, handled contract terminations, compensation lawsuits over breaches of exclusive contracts, and lawsuits for the return of investments in entertainment companies as well as provided legal advice and litigation for celebrities.
NewJeans members’ parents submitted a petition to the court through lawyer Kang. The petition is said to express their intention to support CEO Min Hee-jin.
Before the dispute broke out NewJeans’s parents also sent emails to HYBE to protest against similarities between the concepts of NewJeans and ILLIT, a girl group under another label of HYBE.
Knowing that NewJeans members’ parents appointed a lawyer specializing in entertainment disputes, many netizens argue that there’s a possibility of Newjeans filing a lawsuit against HYBE regarding their exclusive contracts.
Meanwhile, the shareholders’ meeting to replace ADOR executives, including CEO Min Hee-jin, will take place on May 31st. The court’s decision on the provisional injunction filed by CEO Min will be made before the shareholders’ meeting
