According to ADOR’s email sent to HYBE summarizing NewJeans’ parents’ suggestions to the company, which was obtained by Ilgan Sports on May 13, the parents of NewJeans have been frustrated with HYBE for numerous reasons.
Particularly, the parents not only lamented about ILLIT’s similarity to NewJeans, but also accused Bang Si-hyuk of poorly treating the members.
In the email, the parents wrote, “Every time NewJeans meets Chairman Bang Si Hyuk in the company, we don’t understand why Chairman Bang pretends not to know the members and ignores their greetings”, adding, “At first, we doubted what we heard from the kids and thought, ‘Maybe he just doesn’t recognize them’ and confirmed it many times. However, this situation still occurs frequently on different days. There are times when only the two parties meet, so Mr. Bang couldn’t help but recognize NewJeans.”
NewJeans’ parents also voiced their frustrations, saying, “Even if he doesn’t recognize NewJeans, responding to greetings is basic courtesy. Is it so difficult to greet someone? We have heard many stories, such as a member standing embarrassed in the elevator because of being ignored, feeling like Mr. Bang pretended not to see or intentionally avoided them. As parents, we are shocked by this situation and feel at a loss for words with our children. The members are only in middle school age.”
Responding to this email, a high-ranking official at HYBE expressed doubts, stating, “First, we need to confirm whether the email truly reflected the opinions of NewJeans’ parents. We need relevant evidence.”
Meanwhile, regarding the accusation that Bang Shi Hyuk ignored NewJeans, this official said, “I don’t think it’s necessary to respond to baseless claims from ADOR.”
