Previously on November 30, Korean news site WomenNews, known for its coverage of gender equality issues, published an article about the 36 Milestones in Gender Equality Culture in Korea within the year 2024.
The article became available for public viewing in early December, and has since become a hot topic.
In the article, various notable figures and events were listed, including badminton athlete Ahn Se-young, who exposed the corruption in the Korean sports field, as well as famous author Han Gang- the first Asian Woman to win a Nobel Prize in Literature.
Remarkably, NewJeans, with their action of standing up against the mistreatment of artists and contract termination with ADOR, was also mentioned in the list.
The article described NewJeans as “those who have directly shattered the Korean society’s prejudice that ‘female idols are docile puppets’ and have spoken up for their rights”.

It also mentioned NewJeans’ direct exposure of ADOR and HYBE’s wrongdoing via a live broadcast, the girl group’s urgent press conference where they announce their contract termination, and Hanni’s appearance at the National Assembly as “unprecedented actions”.
“They may have received advice from others, but their bold voices, such as ‘We can’t just leave it to the adults and keep waiting because our lives depend on it’ (Hyein) and ‘We will fight for the name NewJeans. No matter what happens, ‘New Jeans never dies’’ (Danielle), have created a big wave”, the article also added, praising the members’ courageous speaking and fight against systemic mistreatment of artists.
