As famous producer Teddy was not mentioned in the credits of BABYMONSTER’s debut track, opinions were raised
As the debut date of BABYMONSTER approaches, YG continues to unveil information about the group’s grand appearance, starting with the song title “Batter Up” and its full music production team.
In particular, BABYMONSTER member Asa can be seen participating in the Lyrics and Composition, making fans proud.
At the same time, YG’s notable figures like Yang Hyun-suk, Choi Hyunsuk (TREASURE), and Lee Chanhyuk (AKMU) are also listed in the credits. It seems that “YG Family” has joined hands in the debut product of BABYMONSTER.
However, the absence of one familiar name, Teddy, has sparked speculations. In fact, those signed under YG affiliate The Black Label had no involvement at all. This worries a lot of fans, considering that Teddy has been a consistent hit-maker who hugely contributed to the success of YG artists.
In addition, Teddy assumed the major role in producing for YG’s renowned girl groups like 2NE1 and BLACKPINK, making BABYMONSTER the first YG girl group without his involvement.
In the past, some media outlets have called Teddy an indispensable person behind 2NE1 and BLACKPINK’s success. Given this history, Teddy’s complete absence from BABYMONSTER’s debut product has left many feeling perplexed.
Meanwhile, in the credits lyrics and composition for “Batter Up”, a relatively unfamiliar name to K-pop fans, Jared Lee, stands out. It is known that Jared Lee previously participated in the production of BABYMONSTER’s pre-debut song “Dream”, and first visited YG’s headquarters in October 2022. Therefore, it is highly likely that BABYMONSTER’s debut project has been prepared for a long time.
On the other hand, there have been speculations that BLACKPINK members may continue to collaborate with Teddy, but YG’s role remains uncertain. Regarding Teddy and The Black Label, many speculate that the affiliated label is slowly reducing its dependance on YG. Earlier in 2023, Taeyang (BIGBANG) left YG for The Black Label, releasing his solo album exclusively under the label. Additionally, BLACKPINK has not renewed their contract with YG, and there’s a chance they will sign under The Black Label to work with Teddy, fueling various conspiracy theories about YG’s internal relationships.
