Park Sung-woong to Appear in “Coach Maeng’s Troll”: Face Potential Dismissal, Poor Performance and Online Troll Add to His Woes
“Coach Maeng’s Troll” confirmed the casting of Park Sung-woong and Park Sang-hoon and announced its official start.
Set to premiere in the first half of the year, “Coach Maeng’s Troll” is a two-man game comedy about professional basketball coach Maeng Gong, who faces dismissal due to poor team performance and ends up joining forces with his own online troll Hwa-jin in a desperate bid to improve his team’s standing.
The script for “Coach Maeng’s Troll” was highly praised in last year’s MBC Drama Script Competition, winning the Grand Prize for its “well-crafted dialogue and compelling dynamic between the two protagonists“, raising anticipation for the series.
Adding to the excitement, the drama features trustworthy actor Park Sung-woong and rising star Park Sang-hoon, promising a fresh on-screen chemistry. Park Sung-woong takes on the role of Maeng Gong, the coach of the professional basketball team “Big Pandas”, which is on the verge of being eliminated from the playoffs for 3 consecutive years. Once a legendary star player known for his aggressive style on the court just like his name suggests he is now infamous as a “young old-school coach” in the professional basketball scene. With his irreplaceable presence and exceptional character interpretation, Park Sung-woong is expected to bring depth and intensity to the role.
Park Sang-hoon plays Go Hwa-jin, an avid online troll who goes by the username “MaengGongExtinctionTeam”. A high school senior with an in-depth understanding of basketball analytics down to the second, Hwa-jin harbors deep resentment toward Maeng Gong, leading him to become his dedicated online hater. Park Sang-hoon, who has left a strong impression through his roles in “A Normal Family” and “The Queen Who Crowns”, will fully immerse himself in the character, showcasing the solid acting skills he has honed over the years.
