YG Artist Opens World’s First ALS Hospital “G-Dragon Donated 100 Million KRW”

On April 6, a video titled “A Special Date with My Beloved Hyeyoung” was uploaded to Sean’s YouTube channel “Together With Sean”. In the video, Sean and his wife Jung Hye-young attended the opening ceremony of the new ALS convalescent hospital, making the moment all the more significant as the first of its kind in the world.

In the video, Sean revealed that together with the late Park Seung-il, a former basketball player and co-representative of the foundation, they raised a total of 23.9 billion KRW over the past 15 years for the establishment of the hospital.

Previously, Sean shared via his personal account, “In 2014, when the Ice Bucket Challenge was trending, Jung Hye-young saw how much effort I was putting into it and said she wanted to support me so she donated 100 million KRW.”

Standing in front of a wall engraved with donor names, Sean said, “This hospital was made possible because so many people helped carry on the thread of hope. In addition to those listed here, around 350,000 people contributed through campaigns and charity product purchases.”

Among the donors were G-Dragon and members of Unknown Crew (Sean, Lee Young-pyo, Jo Won-hee, Yoon Se-ah, Yang Dong-geun, Lee Si-young. G-Dragon and the Unknown Crew each donated over 100 million KRW, while Sean himself personally donated more than 600 million KRW.

Jung Hye-young, while viewing the completed hospital, expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed. She also told her husband warmly, “You worked hard.” Speaking in Sean’s absence, she became emotional and said, “He’s always so sincere in the things he loves. He really seemed to enjoy it all. Watching from beside him, I was both surprised and deeply touched. I truly respect that about him.”

The hospital, named Seungil Hope Convalescent Hospital, is located in Mohyeon-eup, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province. It has 76 beds and is dedicated to treating ALS patients and others suffering from severe neuromuscular rare diseases.

Sean and actress Jung Hye-young have been married since 2004 and have two sons and two daughters. Known for his consistent philanthropy, Sean has earned the nickname “Donation Angel” and continues to inspire many with his actions.
