Seo Hyun-jin Addresses Her “Too Intense” Acting: Gong Yoo is the Same, Romance Scenes Are Getting Cringier

On December 6, during an interview for the Netflix series “The Trunk”, actress Seo Hyun-jin responded with a laugh to Gong Yoo‘s compliment that her acting was “too intense” by saying, “I guess it’s a compliment?”
She added, “Gong Yoo said he isn’t intense, but he is just as intense. I’ve always acted this way. I’m happy when the actors and directors I work with give me feedback. I want them to know that I respect them and have learned so much from them.”
Seo Hyun-jin, who worked with Gong Yoo for the first time, shared, “At first, I didn’t know how he would act, but I was amazed at seeing his new sides. He has a face that looks lonely at times, and he has such a masculine expression, which I really liked.”

She also talked about their romantic chemistry on screen. Seo Hyun-jin said, “As I get older, I feel like romance scenes are getting cringier, but when we shoot, I think to myself, ‘I have to do this.’ Since the overall mood of the show isn’t romantic, when a scene like that comes up, I feel awkward and shy.”
Seo Hyun-jin mentioned a memorable scene in which her character confesses, “I want to sleep with you.”
She said, “Gong Yoo mentioned that scene was difficult. I liked In-ji’s response. It’s rare to hear a response like, ‘I’ll keep that in mind’ when someone confesses something. It felt like it perfectly represented In-ji’s character.”
“The Trunk,” released on November 29, tells the story of two people carrying their own wounds and loneliness who come together to love and save each other through a “contract marriage.”

The series is based on the novel by Kim Ryeo-ryeong, the series is directed by Kim Kyoo-tae, known for “Our Blues” and “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” and written by Park Eun-young, known for “Hwarang.”
In “The Trunk”, Seo Hyun-jin plays No In-ji, an employee at the contract marriage company NM. Meanwhile, Gong Yoo portrays Han Jeong-won, who feels intensely lonely after his marriage. One day, a mysterious trunk is recovered from a lake. This leads them into a whirlwind of secrets behind the NM company.
“The Trunk” has sparked debates, with some viewers uncomfortable with its extreme character settings and the bed scenes and nudity.
