Seohyun Holds Fast to High Standards and Scandal-Free Legacy After 18 Years in the Spotlight

Appearing on the June 16 episode of the YouTube variety show “Jjanhan Hyung Shin Dong-yeop”, alongside fellow Girls’ Generation member Hyoyeon, Seohyun reflected on her journey from teenage idol to respected actress. The episode, titled “Seohyun and Hyoyeon, Burning It Up Like It’s Our Last Variety Show”, offered a rare look at the private thoughts of the long-standing K-pop star.

Debuting in 2007 as the youngest member of Girls’ Generation, Seohyun shared, “Girls’ Generation was my entire 20s.” Her image has remained impeccable over the years, a result of conscious choices and self-discipline. Hyoyeon praised her for that very maturity: “Even though she was the youngest, she kept us in line. Most people in their 20s want to date and party, but she would remind us, ‘We’re the face of Girls’ Generation—we can’t act that way.'”

Seohyun candidly admitted that she avoided dating scandals to protect the group’s image: “I thought, ‘If I get caught in a dating scandal too, it would reflect poorly on the group.'”
Comedian Jung Ho-chul also revisited a viral moment when Seohyun once described her ideal type as “a man like me.” While the statement sparked curiosity online, Seohyun stood by it: “I still believe a man like me exists out there.” Her quiet confidence in holding high standards remains intact. “I have extremely high standards—like, sky-high,” she said boldly. “But I’ve lived my life well, so I want to meet someone who’s done the same.”
Back in April, during promotions for her film “Holy Night: Demon Hunters,” she stressed the importance of living authentically: “As Seo Joo-hyun, the person, I want to live well. That’s how Seohyun the celebrity can also be happy.”
Currently starring in the KBS2 drama “The First Night with the Duke”, which premiered on June 11, Seohyun continues to balance her polished public persona with genuine self-awareness—proving that staying true to oneself never goes out of style.
