The BBC’s documentary exposing former BIGBANG Seungri’s Burning Sun case remains a viral topic online. In the hour-long documentary, BBC included a video of Seungri discussing the nickname he gave himself, “Seungtsby,” and comparing himself to the wealthy Gatsby from the 2013 film The Great Gatsby.

During his solo concert THE GREAT SEUNGRI TOUR 2019 LIVE, Seungri addressed the assault scandal that led to the closure of the Burning Sun club: “For all the incidents that occurred due to my shortcomings, disappointing and worrying fans, I am truly sorry. Last year, while I was doing my business, some images were shown on TV, so I gave myself a nickname. Many people called me Seungtsby. I think I was not humble enough.”
However, when fans reviewed these remarks, they unanimously felt that Seungri’s apology was totally insincere. Seungri’s subsequent crimes and blatant disregard confirmed their suspicions.

At the time of that solo concert, Seungri probably couldn’t have imagined that the lavish parties and his delusion of being Korea’s Gatsby would prompt journalist Kang Kyung Yoon from SBS FunE to seek justice.
The Burning Sun case being brought to light made BIGBANG fans even more bitter, realizing that Seungri’s apology in 2019 was all a facade.
In the BBC documentary, journalist Kang shared: “I was the one who presented a series of evidence regarding prostitution, and the chat group sharing molka. My investigation began with the party in 2015 hosted by Seungri. He called himself Seungtsby, or Korea’s Gatsby.

However, it wasn’t just a party for the rich and famous, but a tool for him to entertain business partners. Moreover, certain details at the party made me question whether Seungri was involved in procuring prostitution as suggested in the chat group.”
Back in 2019, K-pop was shaken by the scandal involving employees sexually assaulting, violently treating customers, and storing drugs at Burning Sun, which Seungri had invested in and managed. The concert THE GREAT SEUNGRI TOUR 2019 LIVE, held at SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium, was significantly impacted as ticket reservations for the two-day concert were continuously canceled.
According to the concert’s ticketing website, after the Burning Sun incident, over 20 tickets were canceled within just four hours, and many tickets were being resold online. As a result, only about 400 seats were reserved, a stark contrast to the sold-out records of previous concerts.
