On Oct 29th, reports surfaced regarding SEVENTEEN’s pre-recording for Mnet’s “M Countdown” on Oct 15th at the CJ ENM Studio Center in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. A fan, identified as “A”, who attended the recording, shared a post on SNS on Oct 22nd, titled “Official Apology and Rectification Request for Fan Safety Issue at SEVENTEEN’s Oct 15th, 2024 Pre-Recording”. The post went viral on X (formerly Twitter), being retweeted over 1,000 times.

A claimed that 1,700 people were crammed into a space only meant for 1,600. Fans in the floor section reportedly felt life-threatening pressure as they were pushed from all sides. Many fainted or fell ill, with some being carried out during the performance. The fan also mentioned that attendees were required to wear varsity jackets, leading to dehydration-related fainting due to the heavy clothing.

A also described the aftermath, stating that after exiting the venue, there was limited space to rest, forcing many fans to sit or lie on the asphalt. A further criticized the lack of follow-up, despite staff collecting personal information from those affected.

A tried reaching out to the fan communication platform Weverse, but received a response saying, “We can only assist with issues that occurred on-site.” A expressed frustration, accusing Pledis, HYBE and CJ ENM of neglecting fans’ concerns despite their influence as large companies.

A said that after A submitted a complaint to the Korea Consumer Agency on Oct 18th, Pledis requested photos or videos of the incident as evidence for compensation.

However, A explained that no such evidence exists since attendees were prohibited from using electronic devices inside the studio.

Not only A, but another SEVENTEEN fan, B, who was present at the scene, stated, “On that day, the stage was protruding, which caused fans to crowd towards the center to get a closer look at the members, making it difficult for many audience members. The members at the scene were also aware of the safety issues and tried to finish the recording quickly.”

In response, HYBE stated, “The capacity of the set and the size of the security personnel on the day were determined according to the broadcast network’s manual, and both our company and the broadcasting station took on-site measures to alleviate audience discomfort, such as moving to rest areas and providing drinks.

Additionally, a representative from ‘M Countdown’ mentioned, “There is no specific position on this matter.”
