According to a report by IZE on May 21, the KBS broadcast review results announced on the same day determined that Shake It Off, a track from SEVENTEEN’s fifth studio album HAPPY BURSTDAY, was unsuitable for broadcast.

SEVENTEEN is set to release their fifth studio album HAPPY BURSTDAY on May 26. The album title combines “Birthday” with “Burst,” signifying explosion, outburst, or a new beginning, hinting at a passionate transformation. The album includes 16 tracks: three group songs, including the title track THUNDER, HBD, and Bad Influence, along with 13 solo tracks by the group’s 13 members. Shake It Off, deemed unsuitable, is Mingyu’s solo track. According to Pledis Entertainment, Shake It Off is a tech-house-based song that maximizes a groovy vibe.

The reason for Shake It Off’s unsuitability is the use of profanity, vulgar language, and crude expressions in its lyrics. Songs deemed unsuitable by KBS can be revised or edited to address the problematic content and resubmitted for review. Only songs that pass the review are eligible for broadcast on KBS programs (TV, radio, etc.).

On the same day, KBS’s broadcast review also deemed several other songs unsuitable, including R.E.D’s DIAMONDS, Kim Seung-min’s Town, DPR CREAM and DPR ARTIC’s XO and Dirty, and VVS’s D.I.M.M., New Phone (Interlude), and Fact$.
