As the final performer and Daesang winner at the 2023 MAMA, SEVENTEEN delivered an emotional and meaningful speech
On November 29, the 2023 MAMA officially concluded with all Daesangs (Grand Prizes) being awarded to HYBE Artists. In particular, SEVENTEEN was the Winner for Daesang “Album of the Year”, while BTS won the Daesang “Worldwide Icon of the Year” for 6 times in a row, and NewJeans was crowned for 2 Daesangs – “Artist of the Year” and “Song of the Year”.
2023 has been an exceptional year for SEVENTEEN, as the male group won various awards and broke various records. They were also a rare 3rd gen group who attended the 2023 MAMA, and brought the crowd alive with performances of their 2 hits, “God of Music” and “Super”.
As a “performance powerhouse”, it was no surprise to see the boy group delivered amazing stages amid loud cheers.
In addition, the group also brought to stage a completely new dance break as well as gorgeous stage productions.
It is known that throughout 2 days at the 2023 MAMA, SEVENTEEN has secured a total of 5 awards, including Album of the Year, Best Male Group, Best Dance Performance Male Group, Worldwide Fans’ Choice, and Culture & Style Award. This is their year with the most awards, and also the first time they secured “Best Male Group” and “Album of the Year”.
When SEVENTEEN was called as the winner of the final Daesang, the entire venue erupted as the group’s leader, S.Coups, who was on a hiatus due to injury, made a surprise appearance on stage. With 13 members finally together in their so far greatest year, fans couldn’t help but be driven to tears.
At the same time, SEVENTEEN also impressed with their extremely emotional and meaning speech.
In particular, Wonwoo mentioned his mother who passed away, saying that thanks to fans, he was able to have a new achievement to “brag to his mother”.
The group also recalled their difficult journey, saying that they have come far, from receiving no awards in 2015 and becoming Daesang winners in their 9th year, and promising that they will continue to make music diligently even in the future.
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan drove the crowd to tears as he acknowledged the harshness of the idol industry, saying, “Despite this (idol work) being a difficult line of work, let’s support each other and be active together for a long time”.
Then, the male idol shed tears as he mentioned his late best friend, ASTRO’s Moon Bin, saying, “I don’t know if I can say this. But I would like to thank my friend, Bin, who had always loved and supported my group more than anyone, as well as all the people who have supported us”.
SEVENTEEN’s extremely sincere words have touched the hearts of not only fans, but also various other artists.
In particular, LE SSERAFIM’s Sakura and Eunchae was seen crying as SEVENTEEN delivered their speech, while other artists, such as ZB1’s Gunwook, also shared that he cried while listening.
