ALLDAY PROJECT’s Annie shares how she overcame family expectations

Shinsegae Heiress Annie: “Idol Debut Only Allowed After Ivy League Acceptance”

On June 27, Annie, a standout member of rookie co-ed group ALLDAY PROJECT, made headlines during her appearance on BIGBANG Daesung’s YouTube show Zip Daesung.

Known for her elite background as the granddaughter of Shinsegae Group Chairwoman Lee Myung-hee and daughter of Shinsegae Inc. President Jung Yoo-kyung, Annie shared her personal struggles and triumphs on the path to K-pop stardom.

Annie revealed that her family was strongly opposed to her becoming an idol. “They said, ‘If you get into an Ivy League school, we’ll allow it,’” she said. True to her promise, Annie was admitted to Columbia University—earning her family’s approval to chase her dreams in K-pop.

In a heartwarming twist, Annie also shared her mother’s deep love for BIGBANG. “On a family trip, she was obsessed with ‘Fantastic Baby,’” Annie recalled. “She downloaded the MV and played it nonstop. She even memorized every accessory.” Daesung, surprised, admitted, “Even I don’t remember all the accessories in that MV.”

Annie further talked about the beginnings of ALLDAY PROJECT, revealing that she and fellow member Tarzzan were the first two chosen. Brought together by THEBLACKLABEL founder Teddy, the two were told, “You’re a team now.” Tarzzan’s first move to break the ice? Inviting Annie to the aquarium.

From elite education to debuting under Teddy’s guidance, Annie’s journey adds a compelling narrative to ALLDAY PROJECT’s debut—highlighting determination, heart, and the power of music.
