Son Ye-jin to Play a Character Inspired by Min Hee-jin? Considering Role in “Variety”
According to the broadcasting industry on February 11, Son Ye-jin has received an offer to star in “Variety” and is currently reviewing it. However, as she is preparing for the filming of Netflix’s series “Scandal”, her final decision has yet to be made.
Son Ye-jin’s side cautiously told Maeil Business Star Today, “She has indeed received an offer for the role, but she is still reviewing the script.”
“Variety” is a thriller set in the idol industry, directed by Kim Yong-hoon, known for “Mask Girl”. Reports suggest that the main cast will consist of current and former idol group members, with casting actively underway. The drama will even create an in-universe idol group that functions like a real one.
The character offered to Son Ye-jin is said to be a bold and charismatic figure, drawing comparisons to former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin.
The series is directed by Kim Yong-hoon, whose works such as “Beasts Clawing at Straws” and “Mask Girl” gained international attention. It is produced by CJ ENM Studios, which was behind “Decision to Leave” and “Hospital Playlist”. Former IZ*ONE member and “Squid Game 2” actress Jo Yu-ri is also being considered for a lead role.
A CJ ENM representative confirmed, “It is true that we have offered the role to Son Ye-jin, but since the project is still in its early stages, nothing has been finalized. Details such as the broadcasting platform and full casting lineup have yet to be determined.”
Meanwhile, Son Ye-jin has already confirmed her appearance in Netflix’s new K-series “Scandal”, a remake of “Untold Scandal”, where she will star alongside Ji Chang-wook.
Her big-screen comeback is director Park Chan-wook’s new work “No Other Choice”, which has already completed filming. The film follows Yoon Man-soo (played by Lee Byung-hun), a man who engages in a desperate hunt for new employment after being fired from a position he’s held for 25 years. Son Ye-jin plays a key role alongside Lee Byung-hun. The movie is based on the novel “The Ax”.
With her involvement in OTT series, films and now a potential drama, Son Ye-jin is making a strong and diverse comeback. She married fellow actor Hyun Bin in March 2022 and welcomed their first son in November of the same year.
