In a video released on the 26th of last month, Song Joong-ki talked about his newlywed life.
During the video, Song Joong-ki bragged about his wife’s cooking skills, which range various types of cuisines, from Italian, Colombian, to even Korean food.
However, in this video Song Joong-ki referred to his wife as “걔” (that person), which drew criticisms from female-only communities.
In particular, netizens left comments such as, “Do you really use the term ‘that person’ when referring to your wife?”, “It feels like praising a dog for being clever and cute”, “You can sense that he’s consciously choosing his words. His current wife is well-educated and fluent in foreign languages, but does he just expect her to stay home and cook? Why marry someone smart if you’re going to treat her this way? He seems greedy and mean-spirited”, and “I’ve met many international couples, but this is the first time I’ve heard someone refer to their spouse as ‘that person.’”
It is important to note that “걔” is a casual way of saying “that person” or “he/she,” typically used when referring to someone younger, of equal social status, or in a non-formal context. Using it for a spouse, especially in public or formal settings, can come across as dismissive or lacking respect.
Additionally, during a recent event for his latest movie “Bogota: City of the Lost”, Song Joong-ki became emotional while speaking to the audience. The moment quickly went viral online, eliciting a wide range of reactions from viewers.
At the event, Song Joong-ki mentioned that Korean cinema is going through a very difficult time, and that he was just grateful that “Bogota: City of the Lost” even made it to theaters. However, as the actor confessed he’s trying to let people know about the movie, he started to cry.
Meanwhile, Song Joong-ki has actively promoted “Bogota: City of the Lost” through appearances on radio shows, variety programs, and YouTube content. Despite his best efforts, including showcasing strong chemistry with his co-star Lee Hee-jun during promotional activities, the film’s lackluster performance likely contributed to his emotional remarks.

Many netizens have expressed sympathy and support, saying, “His passion deserves recognition,” “I want to watch the movie, but there aren’t many showings,” and “The timing just wasn’t right.”
However, some have reacted harshly, accusing Song Joong-ki of being “fake,” comparing his tears to “crocodile tears,” and stating, “There’s no need to worry about celebrities.”
Some even went as far as criticizing sensitive topics such as Song Joong-ki’s family issues and earnings, further fueling the negativity. Personal attacks and excessive malicious comments are rampant, sparking even greater concern.
