Song Mino’s Lies Revealed, YG Silent: WINNER’s Full-Group Comeback in Jeopardy
At a regular briefing by the Korean National Police Agency on March 31, a police official stated, “We summoned Song Mino three times for questioning and also conducted searches and seizures as well as communications investigations.” This came after Song Mino admitted to some of the allegations, though the final investigation results have yet to be released.

During his third round of questioning, Song Mino largely admitted to the charges of negligent duty. Back in January, during the first investigation, he had denied all accusations, insisting he had “served properly”. However, when the police presented evidence proving the violations, he changed his stance and admitted to “leaving his post”.
So what consequences will Song Mino face? Unlike active-duty soldiers who may be re-drafted if found guilty of negligence, public service agents cannot be re-enlisted under the law.
According to Article 32 of the Military Service Act, a public service agent who fails to perform his duties can be reassigned to a new institution. Article 33 also states that if an agent leaves his post without valid reason, his service can be extended by five times the number of absent days. In cases of more than eight days of unauthorized absence, a prison sentence of up to three years can be imposed. Song Mino is now facing either extended service or potential criminal punishment.

Unlike active-duty soldiers, there is no legal mechanism for public service agents to be converted into active-duty status, even if negligence is proven. This disparity has sparked controversy over fairness and equality. While some celebrities who served in active duty and were found guilty of negligent service were ordered to re-enlist, Song Mino is expected to receive only a light punishment drawing criticism.
Song Mino began his service in March 2023 and was discharged on December 23, 2024, after serving for one year and nine months. However, just a week before his discharge, reports emerged that he had excessively taken sick leave and vacation days, sparking controversy. At the time, his agency YG Entertainment claimed “His leaves were used in accordance with regulations, and the reasons were part of ongoing treatment received even before service”, denying all allegations.

However, the police investigation uncovered evidence of negligence, and Song Mino admitted to it. The problem is that the consequences he may face are not limited to legal penalties. There’s also the judgment of the public, which often weighs heavier than the law itself. This is the price of losing public trust. Despite admitting the charges, neither Song Mino nor YG has issued any statement—contrasting with their earlier strong denials.
Song Mino’s misconduct has also impacted WINNER’s plans for a full-group comeback. The group had been preparing for a return, but now faces setbacks. Nevertheless, Song Mino remains silent.
