Soyeon Absent from (G)I-DLE’s Dinner Gathering, Sparking Contract Renewal Failure Rumors Again
On Nov 24th, (G)I-DLE shared a video of the members enjoying beef on their official Instagram account with the caption, “Today’s dinner menu recommendation.”
While the members gathered happily around the grill, leader Soyeon’s presence was noticeably missing. The official account tagged Miyeon, Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua but excluded Soyeon.
This post has sparked reinterpretation due to the timing, as Soyeon is currently in discussions with Cube Entertainment regarding her contract renewal. Fans of (G)I-DLE have also been raising questions about Soyeon’s absence in response to the post.
Although there were rumors of Soyeon’s contract renewal falling through, Cube Entertainment denied these claims. They confirmed that Soyeon’s exclusive contract had already expired but stated that negotiations for renewal were ongoing.
The company also assured that scheduled activities, such as the group’s world tour, would proceed regardless of the contract’s status.
On Nov 23rd, Soyeon performed at the “2024 MAMA Awards” held at Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan, where she addressed the contract issue in a bold performance.
Her rap included the lines: “You said like this in 2021 / ‘What can you guys achieve without Soojin?’ / Contract and company, I said I’m going to take care of it / If I let things like that affect me, I wouldn’t have made it here.”
As (G)I-DLE’s leader, rapper and general producer, Soyeon plays a central role in the group, making her contract renewal a critical factor for the group’s future.
Similarly, Cube Entertainment relies heavily on (G)I-DLE, and the company’s stock price dropped by 7.65% on Oct 25th when rumors of a failed contract renewal first surfaced.
