Sunye Reveals Her Sad Family Story, “Mom Died In Car Accident, Seeing Mom’s Face In Photo After 34 Years”

KBS 2TV’s “Park Won-sook’s Living Together” broadcast on May 2nd showed the guest appearance of singer Sunye and actor Lee Hyo-chun.
Appearing on the show, Sunye sang a part of her musical which contains the feelings of a daughter missing her mother. After finishing the song, Sunye confessed, “Actually, I grew up in the care of my grandmother so I didn’t use the word ‘mom’ so often. I said ‘grandma’ all the time. I feel like I’m singing. I sang ‘mom’ a lot in the script. It feels like I’m saying the word I’d never have a chance to say in my life”.

Park Won-sook asked Sunye, “When were you separated from your mom?”, Sunye replied, “Actually, I can’t remember it clearly. I heard she came to see me frequently until I turned 5”, adding “I heard she passed away around that time due to to a car accident. After I became successful with Wonder Girls, my father passed away when he was in the US”.
Sunye confessed, “I don’t have much memories of my mother so I don’t remember her face. Two years ago, my aunt gave me a picture of mom. I saw her face for the first time in 34 years. It felt so weird. It was so different from what I had imagined”.

In the meantime, Ahn Moon-sook asked about Sunye’s puberty. Sunye said, “When I was in the first and second grades of middle school, I lived in the same house with my dad for the first time. I think he didn’t know how to take care of his children as he read my diary every day. From my point of view, I thought ‘Why did he suddenly appear and check my diary?’. At that time, I became rebellious for the first time so I confronted him and ran away from home angrily”.
She said, “That must be in my puberty. As time passed, I began to understand and accept his thoughts”, expressing her longing for her father.
