Taeyeon and Wendy Scathingly Explain Absence from SM Anniversary Concert, Yesung Also Frustrated
Recently, Super Junior’s Yesung also shared his feelings regarding the upcoming SM Town concert on Bubble, saying “I saw some questions about SM Town. First of all, this is an event of a company I’ve been with for 20 years, I would try to participate as much as possible. However, I could hardly get to participate in the album”.
He sincerely confessed, “I don’t want to talk about their cold reactions, especially to suggestions about group songs, anymore. So please understand that I will only focus on the concert now”.
Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and Red Velvet’s Wendy, who previously announced their absence from SM Entertainment’s 30th-anniversary concert, later addressing fans directly. This differs from SM’s initial explanation citing personal circumstances without further details. Both expressed significant disappointment with the company they have worked with for years.
In particular, on January 6, Taeyeon shared on a fan communication platform Bubble, “I wanted to perform on stage in a cool way, and I was really eager to perform two or three songs, so I told the company and waited. But to make a long story short, they didn’t prepare anything, so I couldn’t perform at all.”
She clarified, “It’s not that I have no enthusiasm or don’t want to do it. I just want to give my all on stage with sincerity and love, and that’s all. But since they didn’t support me properly, I’m seriously thinking about this. What on earth is going on?” expressing her frustration.
She continued, “I’m telling you this so that there’s no misunderstanding from the fans about me.”
Meanwhile, Wendy, whose absence was annoucned just five days before the concert, also spoke out. In her statement, the Red Velvet member expressed her frustration, saying, However, Wendy expressed her frustration, saying, “The discussion with the company happened over a month ago, but the announcement was only made today.”
“I’m not sick, and I’m healthy. My goal for 2025 is to stay healthy, happy, and perform on stages I love as much as possible. I really want to sing so badly”, she also added.
If Wendy’s statement is accurate, it suggests a lack of consideration from SM Entertainment toward fans who had been eagerly awaiting the concert after securing tickets and anticipating the event for weeks.
This 30th-anniversary celebration, a significant milestone, now faces criticism for insufficient regard for the artists and fans who have contributed to SM’s three-decade history.
On the other hand, SM Entertainment’s artists will perform on January 11 and 12 at the “SM Town Live 2025 in Seoul” at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. Melon Ticket, the ticketing service, announced on December 12 that Taeyeon would not be participating in the concert. The specific reason for her absence was not disclosed.
Following Taeyeon, Red Velvet’s Wendy absence was announced just 5 days before the D-Day. At the time, SM Entertainment sent a message to ticket holders, stating, “Red Velvet’s Wendy will not be attending for personal reasons.”
On the other hand, it was discovered that SM employees are complaining about Taeyeon and Wendy’s remarks on the anonymous employee forum “Blind”. Here, the staff described the two’s actions making them “furious” and “beyond disappointed”, before saying that people should not trust what celebrities say.
