On JTBC ‘Newsroom’ broadcast on June 9th, Tang Wei appeared to promote the movie ‘Wonderland‘.

Directed by Kim Tae-yong, ‘Wonderland’ is a story about meeting a loved one again through the video call service ‘Wonderland’, which restores deceased people using artificial intelligence. Tang Wei plays Bai Li in ‘Wonderland’, marking her third Korean film. Tang Wei shared her feelings about working with director Kim Tae-yong again after 13 years, following their collaboration on ‘Late Autumn’.

When asked if she continued studying Korean after ‘Decision to Leave’, Tang Wei responded, “At that time, I really enjoyed the process of learning Korean, and I liked that while working, I could learn the language, its culture, and understand the personalities, habits, and atmosphere of the people who speak it. Now, I need an environment where I can learn Korean, so my husband encourages me to use Korean a lot.”

During the recording, Tang Wei’s husband, director Kim Tae-yong, was standing behind the camera, and Tang Wei pointed him out with her finger, playfully saying, “Director, fighting,” which made Kim Tae-yong smile and burst into laughter.

When asked about the Korean word she uses most often, Tang Wei said, “Yeobo (Honey)” and laughed continuously.

Regarding her participation in her third Korean film ‘Wonderland’, Tang Wei said, “Of course, I wanted to work with director Kim Tae-yong again. When collaborating with him, I feel understood and protected as an actress, and I have a space where I can fully express myself. Director Kim is skilled at drawing out actors’ potential.” She also mentioned that her character, AI Bai Li in ‘Wonderland’, is similar to her personality.

When asked if there is anything she does to show delicate acting, Tang Wei replied, “Sometimes I think acting is like muscle training. If I shoot one film a year, I can probably keep adapting without a stagnation period. But since actors are passive, I’ll have to wait until a role comes and reaches out to me.”

Regarding her future plans, Tang Wei said, “There are so many projects I want to shoot, and so many people, actors, and directors I want to work with. If I get the chance, I want to improve my Korean skills and show Korean audiences a different side of me in Korean projects. I’m really curious and excited. I don’t even know what I’ll become.”

When it was mentioned that her lively image in the past film ‘Finding Mr. Right’ was also impressive, Tang Wei responded happily, “My mom said that among all the roles I’ve played, that character resembles me the most.”

Asked about her future aspirations, Tang Wei said, “If I can improve my Korean skills in a Korean film, I can receive and give feedback more directly. As an actress, I want to do my best. I want to shoot one film a year, gather energy calmly in between, live my life fully, and when a role comes, I want to pour everything into it. Because there’s no shortcut to effort.”
