THE BOYZ’s Sunwoo Apologizes for “Ignore and Mute” Comment Amid Dating Rumor Backlash
On June 10, THE BOYZ member Sunwoo stirred controversy after posting on a fan communication platform: “Mute the novels and come play Rummikub.” The slang term “먹금 (meok-geum)”, short for “don’t feed,” is commonly used online to suggest ignoring a topic or not engaging with it any further.
Many fans interpreted the message as a thinly veiled request to stop discussing the dating rumors involving fellow member Juyeon and actress Shin Si-ah, which had surfaced the same day. His attempt at deflecting the conversation with a casual game reference was met with frustration from fans, who felt it showed a lack of sensitivity during a time of heightened concern and confusion within the fandom.

Sensing the cold reaction, Sunwoo issued an apology the next day on June 11:
“To The B, I’m truly sorry. I acted thoughtlessly without fully understanding the situation and spoke too lightly while playing a game. No matter the reason, I know this must have hurt you more. I sincerely apologize.”
However, this incident is not Sunwoo’s first brush with controversy. In April, a video clip went viral showing him dropping his AirPods while moving between schedules and standing idly by as a security guard picked them up. The scene sparked debate about his attitude and character, with many questioning his sense of humility.

At the time, he also issued a statement through the fan platform, saying, “I apologize for the discomfort caused by my immature behavior.”
As the pattern of missteps followed by public apologies continues, fans are beginning to express fatigue. Critics argue that writing a few lines of apology isn’t enough and that the issue lies in basic attitude and self-awareness.
