The cause of Liam Payne’s death was revealed a day after the former One Direction member fell from a hotel balcony. Preliminary autopsy results showed that Payne suffered multiple injuries leading to internal and external bleeding, according to Page Six.

“Our mission was to get there quickly, provide medical care, and attempt to resuscitate him, but the victim’s injuries were beyond saving,” said emergency doctor Alberto Crescenti, describing the wounds that led to the 31-year-old star’s death.

“Based on the autopsy, it’s clear that there was a skull fracture and extremely severe injuries that caused immediate death,” the medical expert added.

Crescenti declined to comment on whether Payne was under the influence of substances at the time of the tragic incident and urged the public not to “rush to speculate” while waiting for more thorough autopsy results.

According to several Western media outlets, Liam Payne’s hotel room had alcohol and drugs scattered around. Some images have already been circulated.

The autopsy report also added: “There are injuries consistent with the victim’s fall position, suggesting that Payne may not have had the reflex to protect himself and fell while semi-conscious or completely unconscious.”

The British singer was found after falling from the third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Payne was just 31 years old. Police stated that Payne suffered “extremely severe injuries,” and paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Buenos Aires City Security Ministry, Pablo Policicchio, told the Associated Press that the former One Direction member “took his own life from the balcony of his room.”

Police were dispatched to the hotel after receiving an emergency call reporting “an aggressive man, possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

Officers at the scene heard a loud noise and discovered Payne’s body in the hotel courtyard. The singer had fallen from a height of 13-14 meters. It has yet to be determined whether Payne’s fatal fall was intentional.

Before his death, the singer had shared cheerful personal life moments on his social media. He had recently attended a concert by Niall Horan—also a former One Direction member—with his girlfriend.
