The Korean Drama Sweeping OTT Rankings At #1, Beating Out “Hellbound 2” and “Venom”

That drama is tvN’s “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born“. “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” sparked attention by achieving the top spot in the integrated content rankings for the first time since it aired. It has shown unparalleled popularity, beating out both Netflix’s “Hellbound” Season 2 and the movie “Venom”.

“Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” tells the growth story of the main character Jeong-nyeon, who dreams of becoming the greatest Korean traditional opera actress in the period following the Korean War. The show, dealing with the fresh subject of “female Korean traditional opera”, has garnered significant attention domestically. Airing since October 12 on tvN, the series has been praised for the delicate direction of Director Jung Ji-in and the strong performances of skilled actors such as Kim Tae-ri, Shin Ye-eun, Ra Mi-ran, Jung Eun-chae and Kim Yoon-hye. Starting at 4%, the ratings soared to 12% by the eighth episode, solidifying its position as the top drama of late 2024.
In second place is “Hellbound” Season 2. As the follow-up to the 2021 series, this season portrays new chaos among those notified of going to hell. This season’s plot heightens the conflict between the New Truth Society and lawyer Min Hye-jin, bringing a thrilling progression. The drama also drew attention as it marked actress Moon Geun-young’s return after three years, with her transformation becoming a hot topic.

Third place is held by MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “Doubt”, which depicts the dilemma faced by Korea’s best profiler when he discovers his daughter’s secret related to a murder crime, leaving a deep impression on viewers.
The recently concluded action-fantasy drama “The Judge from Hell” took fourth place. It tells the unique story of a passionate detective and a demon-possessed judge working together to achieve true justice, earning strong fan support.

In fifth place is the 2018 movie “Venom”, which has been back in the spotlight due to the success of the latest installment “Venom: The Last Dance”. The action thriller, which tells the story of a passionate journalist and his symbiosis with an alien creature, attracted 3.88 million viewers upon its release.
Following that, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” and “Venom: The Last Dance” took sixth and seventh place, showcasing the series’ overall popularity. JTBC’s drama “A Virtuous Business” ranked eighth, followed by Coupang Play’s series “What Comes After Love” in ninth, and TVING’s drama “Love in the Big City” in tenth.
