‘The Trauma Code’ Original Author Explodes “Overseas Chinese Rumors? I Fulfilled My Military Duty”

On February 14th, Lee Nak-joon, the writer of the original web novel behind Netflix’s “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call”, posted an emotional statement on the “Doctor Friends” channel to clarify the issue.
Lee Nak-joon began by saying, “I wasn’t sure if I should even address this, but after seeing these kinds of comments for a month, I decided to speak up.”
Previously, videos on the “Doctor Friends” channel, which Lee Nak-joon runs alongside Woo Chang-yoon and Oh Jin-seung, had been flooded with unexpected comments such as, “I heard two of you are overseas Chinese, is that true?” and “Was this ‘Overseas Chinese Friends’ all along?”

Regarding this, Lee Nak-joon firmly stated, “We are not overseas Chinese. All three of us served as military doctors. As South Korean citizens, we fulfilled our national defense duties.” He further explained, “Jin-seung and I served at the Aerospace Medical Center, while Woo Chang-yoon served in the Army’s 7th Division.”
Lee Nak-joon also emphasized his family’s deep Korean roots, “Both my paternal and maternal grandfathers were Korean War veterans. My paternal grandfather was a student soldier, and my maternal grandfather was an artillery officer who fought alongside the U.S. Army against the North Korean and Chinese Communist forces at the frontlines during the January 4th Retreat.”
Expressing his frustration, he added, “I have no idea where these rumors are coming from, and even while writing this, I still don’t understand what kind of suspicion I’m being targeted with.”

Meanwhile, “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call”, starring Ju Ji-hoon and Choo Young-woo, is based on the web novel “Trauma Center: Golden Hour” written by ENT specialist Lee Nak-joon (pen name Hansanleega).
Released on January 24th, the drama quickly gained popularity, ranking #3 globally in Netflix’s non-English TV category within just three days and topping the global Netflix chart within two weeks. This success has also drawn significant attention to Lee Nak-joon as the original author.
Following the overwhelming response, Lee Nak-joon appeared on YTN News FM’s “Wise Radio Life” on January 31st to share more insights about the work.
