On July 12, screenshots of Xinyu’s messages on the fan communication platform “fromm” began circulating on Korean online communities, including TheQoo. In the messages, Xinyu stated, “Macau has always been Chinese territory,” and added, “Hong Kong and Taiwan too.”

When some fans expressed concern and advised her to be cautious with such statements, Xinyu reportedly responded firmly: “Why? Are you worried I’ll get scolded?” She continued, “If you don’t agree with my opinion, then don’t come to my fromm.”

The One China principle, promoted by the Chinese government, claims that mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau are all part of a single, indivisible nation governed solely by Beijing.

Many Korean netizens reacted negatively to Xinyu’s remarks, especially her response to fans who disagreed. Comments criticized her for dismissing opposing views and making politically sensitive statements while promoting in South Korea. One user wrote, “It’s clear how she really sees her fans if she tells them to leave for having a different opinion.”

Xinyu, born in 2002, first gained public attention through Mnet’s survival show “Girls Planet 999” in 2021. She later debuted as the 15th member of [TripleS], a group known for its innovative fan-driven structure and growing global popularity.

While political expressions by idols are rare due to the diverse backgrounds of global fans, this incident has reignited debates on whether K-pop stars should engage in geopolitics—especially when their comments may alienate international audiences.
