Autospy Results

On March 31st, a press conference was held at the police headquarters in Migeun-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, where a police official mentioned Wheesung’s death, saying, “We have received the results of the National Forensic Service’s autopsy,” and “as of now, no criminal suspicions have been confirmed.”

It seems that the police have received the autopsy results from the National Forensic Service, but they are stating that it is difficult to specifically reveal the cause of death in order to prevent damage to the deceased’s reputation and secondary damage to the bereaved family. The results of the first autopsy conducted by the police were unknown.

Previously, the National Forensic Service (NFS) conducted an autopsy but stated, “The determination of the cause of death is currently on hold. While some cases allow for immediate conclusions, this one requires further precision analysis before a final judgment can be made.” The detailed examination results are expected to take approximately two weeks.

Close Acquaintance Speaks Out

Fourteen days after Wheesung’s passing on March 8, his bereaved family and agency belatedly set up a memorial for visitors to pay their respects. On the evening of March 13, a close acquaintance of Wheesung came forward, requesting an interview through a mutual contact.

“I felt the need to speak out on his behalf because his honor is being tarnished, and he would have felt so wronged,” the acquaintance began. “Given his recent circumstances, there is no way he would have taken his own life. He was in great spirits, full of hope and anticipation for a new chapter in his life.”

A Promising Future Ahead

From March 6 to 8, Wheesung had traveled to China to discuss career opportunities, and according to the acquaintance, the trip was a success, leaving him highly satisfied. This individual, who had accompanied Wheesung throughout the trip, confirmed that they departed and returned together.

The acquaintance, identified as Mr. Heo, is a Chinese national and a general manager at H Music Korea, a subsidiary of Tencent Music Entertainment. Heo revealed that during the visit, Wheesung finalized a deal to expand his career in China, signing a contract with H Music. Wheesung had planned to relocate to China after completing his upcoming domestic concerts in March.

Heo recalled, “We had been hoping to bring him to China since the beginning of the year, and everything finally fell into place for a March visit. Initially, it was just an opportunity for him to experience the Chinese music industry firsthand while taking a break, but his enthusiasm exceeded my expectations.”

During their discussions on March 7, Heo had casually shown him a basic contract template, intending only to provide an overview. However, Wheesung immediately insisted on finalizing the deal. Since an official contract had not yet been prepared, he went so far as to handwrite the entire agreement himself. Heo shared, “His energy and excitement were undeniable. It’s unimaginable that someone so full of hope and determination for the future would even consider ending his life.”

Unlike his previous activities as a singer, Wheesung’s main focus in China was set to be songwriting and producing. According to Heo, Wheesung had agreed to compose or collaborate on 200 songs over five years, with each project receiving an estimated production budget of 100 million won. Many artists and trainees were already lined up to receive his compositions.

On his way back to Korea, Wheesung was reportedly in high spirits. At Incheon Airport, he warmly embraced Heo, saying, “Let’s work hard together. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.” He also mentioned his plan to wrap up his domestic concerts and relocate to China in April.

Doubts About His Passing

Heo expressed his disbelief, “I never expected everything to come together so quickly. We even started preparing a residence and studio for him in China.” He recalled how they had celebrated at the airport, full of excitement for the future. However, just two days later, he received the devastating news of Wheesung’s passing.

Struggling to process the tragedy, Heo emphasized that Wheesung had been full of life and anticipation. “His face was glowing with excitement,” he said, recalling how they had even scheduled a meeting for the 11th. But on the night of the 10th, the heartbreaking news shattered him.

Heo, visibly distressed, bit his lip before continuing, “How could someone so eager for tomorrow suddenly decide to end his life? Something must have gone wrong, or it must have been some terrible accident. This death doesn’t feel real.”

Remembering Wheesung

To shift the somber mood, the interviewer mentioned that Wheesung’s songs “Even Thought of Marriage” and “HeartsoreStory” were among their favorites. Heo responded with a bittersweet smile, saying, “For me, it’s ‘A Year Gone By.’ When he sang ‘Can’t We’, he used to mimic Wheesung’s signature facial expressions and gestures, laughing with such pure joy.” He also shared that Insomnia was particularly well-received in China.

Reflecting on the Chinese music industry, Heo revealed, “I used to be a musician too. I was into heavy metal, and my career revolved around hip-hop. These days, I mainly work on rock music.”

Throughout the conversation, Heo frequently used words like “vitality” and “energy” when describing Wheesung, but as he spoke, his expression grew increasingly solemn, and his eyes filled with tears.

“A female singer based in Nanjing, who is also a fan of Wheesung, was so excited about his move to China that she traveled six hours just to meet him. They had long conversations, and he even promised to write her a song. Now, everything feels like such a tragic loss.”

Meanwhile, Wheesung’s memorial was set up at Samsung Medical Center’s funeral hall on the morning of March 14. His funeral service will take place on March 16 at 6 AM (KST), followed by the burial at 7 AM.
