Young Actress Shares Heartfelt Story About IU’s Support in “When Life Gives You Tangerines”
On the May 3 episode of JTBC’s “Knowing Bros“, young actress Kim Tae-yeon made her variety show debut and stole hearts by sharing emotional anecdotes about her experience filming the Netflix K-drama “When Life Gives You Tangerines” and the unwavering support she received from IU.
Kim Tae-yeon portrays the younger version of female lead Ae-soon in the highly anticipated drama “When Life Gives You Tangerines“, with IU playing the adult Ae-soon. During the Children’s Day special of “Knowing Bros” (Episode 480), the rising star opened up about her admiration for IU and how their connection grew even without sharing scenes together.
“I got into a car accident on my way to the audition,” the actress revealed, adding, “but I begged my mom to let me go because I really wanted to do this drama. I’ve liked sister IU since I was seven. I wanted to play her younger version more than anything.”
The young actress also recalled the overwhelming moment she found out she was nominated for Best New Actress at the Baeksang Arts Awards, saying, “I came home from academy class, and my mom was crying. She told me I got nominated. I was so happy; I always dreamed of attending that ceremony.”
What moved fans the most was Kim Tae-yeon’s story about IU’s thoughtful gesture in helping her prepare for the prestigious awards show. “It was my first time at an awards show, and I had no idea what to wear. IU unnie reached out to help me pick out a dress,” Kim said, adding, “She chose the fabric and the rhinestones herself. I was so grateful.”
Although they didn’t film scenes together, IU made a lasting impression. “She recognized me on set and called out, ‘Tae-yeon-ah!’ It made me so happy. She even invited me to her concert and sent a coffee truck on the last day of filming“, Kim Tae-yeon revealed.
