Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Spotted Strolling in Shopping Arcade While Ignoring Police Summons

Amid an ongoing police investigation and mounting legal scrutiny, former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol was seen walking through a shopping arcade in Seoul on June 12, the very day he was scheduled to respond to a second police summons.

At approximately 11:20 a.m., Yoon appeared in the basement level of the Acrovista complex in Seocho-gu, accompanied by security personnel and dressed casually in shorts. He exited a gallery and made his way toward a section of the mall known for its health and beauty shops, drawing attention from onlookers.

Yoon is currently under investigation for two serious charges. The first involves obstruction of official duties, with allegations that he ordered the Presidential Security Service (PSS) to intervene and block his arrest.
The second pertains to abuse of power under the Presidential Security Act, reportedly for directing the PSS to delete records of secure communications among military commanders related to martial law discussions on December 7, 2024.

Despite being summoned initially on June 5, Yoon declined to appear. The special investigation unit followed up with a second summons for June 12, which he also ignored. Instead, his lawyer, Yoon Gap-geun, submitted a written opinion on June 11 stating that the former president would not comply with the police’s request for an in-person appearance.
As controversy swells, public criticism grows over Yoon’s public presence during a period of serious legal investigation. Authorities have not yet announced whether they will seek compulsory measures.
