YouTuber Who Spread False Rumors About Jang Wonyoung Bought Villa With Criminal Profits: Ruined Life?

A shocking revelation has emerged involving the notorious YouTube channel Talduck Asylum (탈덕수용소), which previously targeted IVE’s Jang Wonyoung with malicious falsehoods. According to South Korea’s first official cybercrime attorney, Jung Kyung-seok, the channel’s operator not only fabricated defamatory content but also used criminal profits to purchase a villa, which has now been seized by authorities.

Appearing on the April 9 episode of tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block,” Jung Kyung-seok recounted the legal battle that led to the unmasking and sentencing of the anonymous YouTuber. The turning point came after Jung Kyung-seok filed a court order in the United States to disclose the leaker’s identity. As soon as Google notified the operator of the impending disclosure, the Talduck Asylum channel was swiftly deleted.
However, Jung, working in collaboration with a local U.S. attorney, was still able to retrieve the deleted account’s data, successfully identifying the individual’s real name, address, and financial records.

The legal repercussions were severe. The cyber leaker was initially ordered to pay 100 million KRW (around $69,000 USD) in defamation damages. Though the appeal reduced the amount to 50 million KRW, it is now being actively collected. The individual also received a 2-year prison sentence, suspended for 3 years of probation.
What truly stunned many was Jung’s revelation that the YouTuber had used their illicit earnings to buy a villa. Authorities were promptly alerted, and the property has since been seized under asset preservation measures. Jung stated, “This house was purchased with criminal earnings. To fulfill their compensation obligations, they may have to sell the house or take out a loan.”

Jung emphasized that this case sets a crucial precedent in cybercrime law: “All profits from cyber crime are now subject to forfeiture. If you’re caught, your life could be completely ruined.” He added that spreading falsehoods online is no longer a risk-free act, it can cost offenders everything, including their freedom and their home.
The case has drawn widespread attention not only for its legal outcome, but also for reaffirming the importance of protecting public figures like Jang Wonyoung from baseless online attacks. As Jung put it, “That awareness alone might stop them from even trying.”
