Appearing on the Sebasi Talk YouTube channel on July 7, Zion.T candidly opened up about the mental and emotional battles he fought during his career—battles that began with intense dissatisfaction with himself.

“I didn’t like anything about myself, including my music and my face. I was so dissatisfied and depressed that I couldn’t stand it.”

Known among peers for his meticulous standards, Zion.T revealed how perfectionism turned destructive during his younger years:

“When I was young, I was recording and hated my voice so much that I ended up beating the wall next to me.”

He expressed deep regret over the moment, especially since his close friend who was working with him at the time burst into tears, shocked by the self-harming outburst. Zion.T also shared how his self-hatred shaped his musical style and appearance. To mask what he considered his “thin and unappealing” voice, he began layering choruses during production.

“I even stole my dad’s sunglasses to wear on stage… I didn’t want to show my eyes to people because I hated myself on stage and couldn’t stand it.”

Yet, these very insecurities unintentionally became tools for transformation.

“While covering myself up, I was also filling myself up. Strangely, the songs I made while hating myself became the ingredients that made me love myself.”
