IU Changed Her New Song’s Title, Receives Mixed Reactions

On January 19, IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, officially announced that IU’s pre-released song “Love Wins”, which is scheduled for release on January 24 at 6 pm, will have its title changed to”’Love Wins All”.

According to the agency, the title change was because they don’t want to blur the important message of “Love Wins”.

They also further explained the title of IU’s song, saying, “We respect and support everyone who lives and loves in various ways”, and added, “We sincerely hope that all love will win in a world without hatred, and the message of the song will be conveyed without hurting anyone”.

Previously, the LGBTQ+ community expressed negative opinions about the original title, “Love Wins”. In particular, there was speculation that if IU released a new song called “Love Wins,” the ideology and message attributed to the LGBTQ+ slogan might be diluted.

It is known that “Love Wins” is a phrase that LGBTQ+ individuals used as a hashtag when the U.S. Federal Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage on June 26, 2015. It has been used to show support for the LGBTQ+ community for a long time.

In the midst of negative opinions from some LGBTQ+ individuals, IU took a stance by changing the original song title “Love Wins” to “Love Wins All.” Most fans praised this decision, saying, “Well done,” “IU is considerate,” and “She has embodied the message she wants to convey through the new song.”

Interpretations suggest that IU, by changing the title, listened to the voices of LGBTQ+ individuals, and on a broader level, wanted to convey a message of “let’s love each other without hatred.”

However, some fans expressed regret, believing that IU had accommodated the demands of some LGBTQ+ individuals who were making baseless accusations. There were also opinions stating, “I thought they would still criticize even if the title changed because they initially wanted to criticize,” although these opinions were in the minority.

IU, as a prominent solo female artist, is receiving mixed views on her recent change in the song title. However, it seems that IU herself considered this title change as an extension of the message she wants to convey. As she directly explained, “I want to tell the story of those who strive to love till the end in a world that interferes with love.” Perhaps, IU wanted to experience once again that the values of love and inclusivity ultimately lead to victory rather than hatred or criticism.
