The “2023 SBS Drama Awards” took place on Dec 29th, hosted by MC Shin Dong-yup and actress Kim Yoo-jung.
Lee Je-hoon, who received the grand prize at the awards ceremony with “Taxi Driver 2” along with Kim Tae-ri of “Revenant”, expressed sorrow for the sudden loss of actor Lee Sun-kyun and paid tribute to him in his acceptance speech.
Kim Nam-gil, who came forward to announce the grand prize winner, mentioned Lee Sun-kyun’s famous line while discussing the competitive field of actors in his speech.
Park Sung-woong, who won “Top Excellence Award, Actor in a Miniseries Genre/Action Drama” with “The Killing Vote”, dedicated his words to Lee Sun-kyun, expressing his wish for him to find peace in the afterlife.
Jin Seon-kyu, who won “Best Performance” with his performance in “Revenant”, indirectly mentioned Lee Sun-kyun in his speech, hoping that the year 2023 would be remembered as a beautiful memory despite the recent sad events.
Singer Hwasa altered her originally planned lively performance to a more subdued one due to the recent tragic event. She wore a black dress and sang the ballad “LMM” to convey condolences.
Kim Tae-ri, Lee Sung-kyung and Shin Ye-eun were visibly moved, and the camera captured somber expressions of other actors.
The team from the drama “Payback”, in which Lee Sun-kyun participated, decided not to attend the awards ceremony but conveyed their condolences through a message displayed with a black-and-white photo of the late actor.
Meanwhile, Lee Sun-kyun was found dead in a parked vehicle near a park in Jongno-gu, Seoul on Dec 27th. During this time, Lee Sun-kyun had been under police investigation on charges of marijuana and psychotropic drugs under the Narcotics Control Act.
