Recently, Enhypen’s Jake faced harsh criticism for drinking Starbucks coffee while doing a live broadcast on Weverse. After receiving negative feedback, he immediately apologized.
Amid the serious situation of the Israel-Palestine war, coffee brand Starbucks filed a lawsuit against a Starbucks union, Starbucks Workers United, that expressed support for Palestine for trademark infringement. As a result, Starbucks was classified as a pro-Israel company and a boycott movement spread widely around the world.
Despite Starbucks CEO’s explanation, which was “They spread misinformation contrary to the values pursued by Starbucks”, the boycott still continues.
Amidst this, when Jake was seen drinking Starbucks coffee, overseas fans left comments such as “Drinking Starbucks coffee is like participating in Israel’s large-scale massacre” and “Stop consuming Starbucks products. Starbucks sponsors the Gaza Strip massacre.”
In response to the controversy, Jake transferred the coffee to a regular glass. However, as the criticism did not subside, he apologized, “I made a mistake. I’ll make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
Apart from Jake, other celebrities like Jeon Somi, BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, aespa’s Winter and Seventeen’s Hoshi faced criticism for consuming Starbucks beverages or products.
